Applications now open for 2016 Travel Awards

Newark NJ City Hall

We are now accepting applications for our 2016 round of travel awards, for students and academic colleagues. The deadline for submission of applications for both student and academic travel awards is 12 noon on Friday 3rd June.

Postgraduate and Undergraduate Travel Awards

The Rothermere American Institute is pleased to announce the availability of at least five travel grants to allow postgraduate and undergraduate students to conduct primary research in the United States. Awards are available to Oxford University students writing theses or dissertations in American history, politics, or literature.

Postgraduates should set out in their application how an RAI Travel Award would enable them to undertake primary research in support of their Master’s or Doctoral thesis. Undergraduates should similarly describe how an award would allow them to conduct primary research in connection with their undergraduate thesis or dissertation. Reports from past recipients of RAI Travel Awards are available to view at http://www.rai.ox.ac.uk/travel-awards.

Applicants should also submit projected costings from a minimum of £200 and up to a maximum of £2,000 per application. Travel and reporting for awards made in 2016 should be completed by the start of 0th week of Trinity Term 2017.

Proposals should be of a maximum of 500 words in length, and applicants should also include a curriculum vitae of not more than three pages. Preference will be given applicants who have shown a strong commitment to the RAI's activities over the previous year.

Applicants should submit three copies of their proposal to the Travel Grants Committee, Rothermere American Institute, 1a South Parks Road, OX1 3UB, and to follow this up with an electronic copy to enquiries@rai.ox.ac.uk.

Academic Travel Awards

Thanks to a number of generous donations, the RAI is pleased to invite applications for travel grants to Oxford University academic staff and RAI fellows in support of primary research in American history, politics and international relations, and literature, and the giving of conference papers in these fields.

The RAI seeks applications for awards of up to a maximum of £1,000 per person. Applications should be of a maximum of 500 words and should include detailed projected costings, a brief summary of the archival resources to be consulted or interviews conducted, and the contribution of this research to the applicant’s wider project. Preference will be given to those applicants who show how their project will enhance the intellectual life of the RAI.

Travel and reporting for awards made in 2016 should be completed by the end of Trinity Term 2017.

Applicants should submit their proposal by electronic copy to the Travel Grants Committee, Rothermere American Institute, at enquiries@rai.ox.ac.uk.
