Applications open for Broadbent Junior Research Fellowship in American History

The RAI and St Edmund Hall invite applications for the Broadbent Junior Research Fellowship in American History. The Fellowship has been endowed and established by a generous donation from the William S. Broadbent Family. Avery W Broadbent (St Edmund Hall, 2004) and William S Broadbent, Jr. (Christ Church, 2006) both studied at Oxford at the RAI and received Master of Studies, Modern History.

The principal duty of the Broadbent Fellow will be to produce exceptional research at postdoctoral level for publication in books and articles, on any topics in American History from 1600 onwards. The Fellow will be expected to assist in the teaching of American history to undergraduates for the University and for St Edmund Hall, at the standard post-doctoral stint of up to four hours per week. This teaching might consist of some combination of lecturing and tutorial instruction. The Fellow will assist the St Edmund Hall history tutors in admissions and the teaching of methodology papers (Disciplines of History and Approaches to History), as well as General History, Further Subject or Special Subject papers relating to the Fellow's specialism.

The salary will be £24,000 per annum plus the Fellow will have the option of becoming or remaining a member of the USS (Universities Superannuation Scheme). Other benefits include an Academic Allowance of £3,000 per annum plus membership of the Senior Common Room entitling the Fellow to dining rights when the College Kitchen is open.

This is a fixed-term, non-renewable post for the period October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2020. Appointment will also be subject to provision of proof of the right to work in the UK. Applicants should note that, under UK immigration rules, candidates for this post from outside the European Economic Area would not be eligible for sponsorship for a Tier 2 (skilled worker) visa unless they are switching from an existing UK visa in an eligible category (e.g., a Tier 4 (student) visa) or are under 26 years of age.
