The RAI congratulates Horatio Joyce on being awarded the 2019-2020 Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Research Fellowship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. During his tenure he will catalogue and research the American architectural drawings in the Department of Drawings and Prints, including works by Alexander Jackson Davis, Ogden Codman Jr., and Frank Lloyd Wright. He will also develop his doctoral thesis, on the architecture of gentlemen’s clubs in New York City, for publication.
Horatio completed his D.Phil. in American History at Oxford in 2018. His co-edited volume (with Edward Gillin), Experiencing Architecture in the Nineteenth Century: Buildings and Society in the Modern Age, appeared with Bloomsbury in October 2018. He will be chairing a paper session entitled ‘Fantasies of Aristocracy: England and the American Renaissance’ at the Society of Architectural Historians’ 72nd Annual International Conference in Providence, Rhode Island on 26 April 2019.
