Grace Aquilina

I am a 2022 Barry Scholar reading for the MPhil in the History of Science and Technology. I study the professionalization of American women’s work during the Scientific Charity movement, with a focus on the interactions between Josephine Shaw Lowell, social reformer and first female commissioner for the New York State Board of Charities, and Sister Irene Fitzgibbon, the founder of a foundling home and maternity hospital.
