Rivers Gambrell

Rivers Gambrell received her doctorate in History from the University of Oxford in August 2020 with a dissertation entitled Pigskin Politicking: The American Presidency and the Changing Politics of Sport. She previously earned an M.A. from Duke University and a B.A. from Flagler College. Her research considers the shifting role of professional sports in U.S. politics during the twentieth century. She is currently editing a volume called Sports and the American Presidency: From Theodore Roosevelt to Donald Trump (Edinburgh University Press, 2022), and has most recently been published in the Journal of Animal Ethics. Rivers’ first book will investigate the politicization of sport during Richard Nixon’s presidency.
