Mourning Martyrs: Civil Rights Deaths and Museum Narratives

Dr Jenny Woodley is a Senior Lecturer in Modern History at Nottingham Trent University. She is the author of Art for Equality: The NAACP’s Cultural Campaign for Civil Rights (University Press Kentucky, 2014). She has published work on race and memorials in the Journal of American Studies and Memory Studies. Her project on remembering and mourning Black victims of lynching was funded by the British Academy. She is the recipient of a Leverhulme Research Fellowship for her new project, 'Mourning at the Museum: Interpreting Grief at Black Heritage Sites'.
