New publications by RAI fellows

Early 2017 sees the arrival of three books on American politics by current and former RAI fellows. The titles join a long list of publications arising from research conducted at the RAI.

Byron Shafer's The American Political Pattern: Stability and Change, 1932-2016 (Kansas UP, 2016) charts the shifting internal dynamics of the American political system over the past 80 years, examining sources of stability and volatility in past, present, and future. Byron Shafer was Winant Visiting Professor of American Government in 2014-15 and remains a Distinguished Fellow of the RAI. He is Professor of Politics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Carol Sanger's About Abortion: Terminating Pregnancy in Twenty-First-Century America (Harvard UP, forthcoming March 2017) penetrates the silence which surrounds terminating pregnancies by distinguishing between abortion privacy, a form of nondisclosure based on a woman's desire to control personal information, and abortion secrecy, a woman's defense against the many harms of disclosure. Carol Sanger is Professor of Law at Columbia University and held a Senior Visiting Research Fellowship at the RAI in 2014-15.

Nadia Hilliard's The Accountability State: US Federal Inspectors General and the Pursuit of Democratic Integrity (Kansas UP, forthcoming April 2017) examines an office associated with increasing concerns about accountability in government, revealing the effects that Inspectors General can have on American democracy. Dr Nadia Hilliard is a Postdoctoral Visiting Research Fellow at the RAI and Junior Research Fellow in Politics at Balliol College.
