Inside American Politics 2026

The 2026 Inside American Politics conference, presented in partnership with the Rothermere American Institute at the University of Oxford, convenes at a consequential moment for American politics and democracy. Taking place just days after the 2026 U.S. midterm elections, the conference brings together leading political strategists, journalists, scholars, policymakers, and students to assess the election results, examine the forces reshaping the American political landscape, and consider what they mean for the future of the United States and its role in the world.

Drawing on Oxford’s tradition of rigorous interdisciplinary inquiry, the conference looks beyond the immediate electoral cycle to explore the broader institutional, historical, and global forces shaping American democracy. In the year of the nation’s 250th anniversary, participants will reflect on the evolution of American self-government, the resilience of its democratic institutions, and the changing relationship between the United States and its allies—while considering the choices and challenges that will define the country’s next chapter.
