Opportunities

Fellowships, Grants and Prizes

The RAI’s main objective in having its various categories of association is to enhance our academic community and activities and to create a lively, dynamic and supportive scholarly network, particularly for students, recent graduates and early career researchers and academics. In addition, our goal is to provide academics who are not employed by the University a short-term opportunity to visit Oxford, access its resources and conduct research.

We offer fourth-year doctoral scholarships to support our graduate students as they complete their dissertations, and grants to members of our community for travel to archives and conferences or other expenses associated with their research.

In collaboration with the Faculty of History, we award three prizes for students each academic year:

  • Richard J. Carwardine Prize for best overall contribution to the MSt in American History
  • Barbara Savage Prize for the best undergraduate thesis in Black history
  • Wylie Prize for the best undergraduate thesis on the history of the United States
