Drone Warfare: Trends and Emerging Issues

Co-convened by Dr James Rogers (Centre for War Studies, University of Southern Denmark) and Professor Caroline Kennedy-Pipe (RAI Vacation Visiting Research Fellow), this workshop builds upon previous events held at the University of Oxford, University of York, University of Iceland, University of Hull, and University of St Andrews.

The purpose is to draw together drone experts from policy, military, and academic circles to discuss what they judge to be the most import emerging trends and issues in global drone warfare. Day One will focus on the latest research in the drone field, with talks on the importance of unarmed drones, new forms of armed drone use, kill lists and intelligence gathering, and the impact of drones on civilian populations. Day Two will be a closed roundtable designed to discuss and critique the workshop convenor’s forthcoming book, Drone Warfare: Concepts and Controversies (Manchester University Press, 2019) prior to final submission for publication.
