Ashley Wright holds a doctorate (DPhil) from the Department of Politics and International Relations. Her current research explores the role Congress plays in foreign policymaking through foreign aid appropriations, how U.S. foreign aid functions as a tool of foreign policy, and the evolution of the Presidential-Congressional struggle over foreign aid as foreign policy. She focuses on the political economy of foreign aid allocation, particularly how the political structure of the US shapes its foreign aid allocations. She studies the extensive involvement of federal agencies and their interactions with Congress in the foreign aid process, employing empirical analysis, archival work, and interviews.
