Isabella Noonen

I am a MPhil History student at University College interested in late 20th century social movements and memory studies. My current research examines how intergenerational transmission between activists occurred and how collective memory of social movements forms via the case of the anti-South African apartheid movement on American university campuses during the 1980s, and the relationship that these Reagan-era activists had with the student movements of the 1960s.

I grew up in Los Angeles, California and Reno, Nevada before joining the Dual BA Program between Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University for my undergraduate studies; I graduated in 2023 with BAs in European Studies and History from Trinity and Columbia, respectively. My undergraduate thesis investigated the ‘underground press’ of the late 1960s/early 1970s counterculture via the example of the East Village Other
