Catherine Morley is Professor of American Literature at the University of Leicester, where she has served as Head of English (2015-2019) and Head of the School of Arts, Media and Communication (2020-2025). She has most recently published the Oxford World's Classics Edition of Willa Cather's Death Comes for the Archbishop (2026). Previous works include Modern American Literature (2012), The Quest for Epic in Contemporary American Literature (2009), as well as edited collections such as 9/11: Topics in Contemporary American Literature (2016), American Modernism: Cultural Transactions (2009), American Thought and Culture in the Twenty-First Century (2008). She has published numerous articles and chapters in publications such as the Journal of American Studies, Modernist Cultures, English and Philip Roth Studies. During her time at the RAI, she will be working on a new monograph which examines the role of art and painting in the writerly techniques of Willa Cather.
