Thesis title: The Evangelical Catholic: An ecclesiastical and intellectual history of the nature of religious identity within the writings of the Reverend William Augustus Muhlenberg
Supervisor: Canon Prof. Mark D. Chapman

I am an Anglican priest and I work as a university chaplain whilst undertaking my research. I have always maintained a strong interest in Intellectual History and Ecclesiastical History. The primary focus of my research is on understanding the religious identity and motivation of the Reverend William Augustus Muhlenberg (1796 - 1877) and his influence on the American Episcopal Church and wider Anglicanism. A secondary focus is on understanding his network of religiously motivated individuals active in New York around the mid-nineteenth century. Muhlenberg was an energetic and highly influential nineteenth century American Episcopal priest who left his mark on both NYC and the American Episcopal Church.
