Madison Lyonhart

I have obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Studies and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies with a concentration in the History of Christianity. My master’s thesis was titled, “A Caricature of Christ: The Image of Jesus in American Muscular Christianity 1880-1920,” and upon graduating I received this History of Christianity prize for the highest GPA within my concentration. Subsequently, I have been an adjunct instructor for Lincoln Christian University, teaching the History of Gender and Christianity course and Race, Gender, and Evangelicalism. Last year I presented my paper titled, “A Caricature of Christ: Celebrity Jesus in American Muscular Christianity” at the American Academy of Religion Annual Conference. This year I will present my paper, “Manly Hymns and Muscular Christians” at that same conference.
