Philippa Monk is a DPhil candidate in history at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. Her research on the history of the global eradication of yaws examines both British and US imperialism, and the rise of international health organisations in the twentieth century. Her research is funded by the Corpus Christi-Clarendon Watts Studentship, the Beit Fund, and the Colin Matthew Fund at St. Hugh’s.Â
Prior to her DPhil, Philippa completed her MPhil in World History at the University of Cambridge. Her dissertation on STDs in the Vietnam War was supervised by Andrew Preston; in it, she attempted to uncover the efforts of US public health officials to create a regulated system of prostitution in the age of penicillin. Her thesis was selected to be deposited in the Seeley History Library, and has subsequently been awarded the Jane Willis Kirkaldy Prize. Her archival research was funded by a Sara Norton Award.
