Stephen Symchych

A D.Phil. candidate in US History at St Antony’s College, Stephen Symchych previously earned master’s degrees from the Yale School of Management in finance and strategy, where he was a teaching assistant to Prof Kenneth French, and from the University of Cambridge in US History. His MSt dissertation, under the supervision of Dr Nicholas Cole, examined the Federalist party in Boston during the War of 1812.  He is preparing his doctoral thesis on Political Identity in Post-Revolutionary Massachusetts, also under Dr Cole's supervision.

At Oxford, he was a co-founder and co-convenor of the OxEARS series of seminars.  He has presented research at conferences for City University of New York, Early American Republic Seminar (CUNY EARS), Boston University’s American Political History Institute Annual Conference, and the Commonwealth Fund Conference at University College, London.

Stephen has an article provisionally accepted by the Journal of the Early Republic on 'Misunderstood Virtue: Moderation in an Era of Intense Partisanship'.  He will be publishing the complete papers of John Gallison with the Colonial Society of Massachusetts.
