Theodore Fawcett

D.Phil. in History

Between 2020 and 2021, I read for an M.St. in American history at the University of Oxford, writing a dissertation entitled '"Chiefly a Party of Young Men": Youth and Generations in the Coming of the American Civil War', which primarily investigated the role of a language of 'youth and generations' in the political discourse of the 1850s and Lincoln's election. I undertook my B.A. in History at University College London from 2016 to 2019 where my final year dissertation, entitled '"The Cause of Our Union and Liberty": The Motivations of Young Northern Soldiers', traced the political and sociological development of a young generation of Union soldier, exploring how they understood the war’s aims and their own role in realising them.
